I've been recommending the RAV4 for years. It's still the best midsize SUV. Here's why! It offers great space, with a five-seat layout and a larger-than-average boot capacity as well. There's the choice of petrol or petrol-electric hybrid models, including all-wheel drive if that's what you need. It has been updated with new tech recently, including a bigger, better touchscreen. EVERYTHING You NEED To Know About The NEW 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid!! Toyota hit it out of the park with the 2023 Rav4 winning the hearts of fans across the globe, but in this video, we’ll look at how the Japanese car giant has managed to improve upon the already great SUV with the new 2024 Toyota Rav4… Starting off with the performance. In terms of performance, the new Rav4 will stay the same as the previous lineup! For instance, the new lineup will hopefully feature gasoline-only Rav4 models run by a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine producing 203 horsepower and 184 lb/ft of torque. While the hybrid trims are going to be even better as they’ll feature a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors generating 219 horsepower and 163 lb/ft of torque! Not just that, just like the 2023 lineup the 2024 Rav4 should also feature an eight-speed automatic transmission paired with both standard front-wheel drive as well as the optional all-wheel-drive system. The engine will stay the same for all the trim levels. And yes, the trim levels may stay the same as before. Meaning the lineup will include trim levels LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. But since Toyota hasn’t revealed the information about how many trim levels the 2024 lineup will have, we’ll have to wait for the official news to come out. However, that shouldn’t be an issue! While we’re on the topic, let us tell you about the expected acceleration as well! I believe it wouldn’t disappoint this time, either. If you talk about the Rav4 Limited, it’ll take 8.0 seconds, while the Rav4 TRD Off-Road will take about 8.5 seconds to go from 0-60! That’s a reasonable acceleration, we’d say but probably not for all those speed lovers. However, for the Hybrid models, like the XLE and the XSE, the acceleration is much better as they accelerate from 0-60 Mph in just 7.0 and 7.5 seconds, respectively. For now, this is all that we know about the performance and engine of this upcoming lineup, but worry not because we’ll definitely keep you updated! And for now, let’s move on to other important things that you should know about the 2024 Rav4! The interior is getting updated and will be better than before. One thing that we absolutely love about the Rav4 is how the company focused on the details when designing the interior of any car. The control layout is amazing! It's large, the labeling is super easy to read, and the proper spacing makes it super easy to use for the driver. Not just that! The climate system controls, as well as the audio system, have their own specific space! That’s something you’d definitely like because it makes these controls more accessible and easy to use when driving. However, for the Rav4 lineup, Toyota lacks in one thing when it comes to the interior. It looks like the Rav4 doesn’t offer a proper view to all the passengers. From what we see, it could’ve been much better if the front passenger seat wasn’t too high or was at least adjustable. The adjustable front passenger seats are only available in only the Rav4 Limited trim level in the entire lineup. This is bad because this should’ve been standard. While that’s a drawback, there’s some good stuff going on as well! The steering wheel and driver’s seat are adjustable according to your needs. And yes, this feature comes standard in all the trims. With good adjustability, the driver also gets the perfect outward view. Now if we talk about the space, it’s quite spacious for a midsize SUV in the same class. So the front seats have a headroom of 37.7 inches and 41 inches of legroom, while the rear seat passengers will enjoy more headroom of about 39.5 inches, but the legroom is a little less compared to the front seats. The rear passengers only get 37.8 inches of legroom. But hear me out! Even that’s enough, regardless of your height! That’s the interior space covered, but what about cargo? After all, we all need to put those bags somewhere, right? Toyota made sure that everyone buying the Rav4 doesn’t have to worry about cargo space! The previous model had enough space, and nothing has changed this time, either! Just like the 2023 model, the new lineup features 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space. And if you fold the rear seats, it can be increased up to 69.8 cubic feet! Compared to the 2024 Honda CR-V boasts about 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space, the Rav4 is just a little behind! We’ve reviewed the new RAV4 in terms of (mostly) on-road characteristics and it’s impressed us but how does it perform when you get off the bitumen and the hybrid’s all-wheel drive capabilities are tested? The Toyota RAV4 Cruiser AWD hybrid marks the real arrival of a very capable, very driveable hybrid SUV to our shores. It’s bold and bulky – in a good way – but it’s also practical, refined, and it’s fun to drive. It’s not a hard-core off-roader by any means, but it scores so highly as a light-duty off-roader because it’s supremely well-suited to life in the city or suburbs and is quite a capable all-wheel drive vehicle if you’re sticking to bitumen or well-maintained gravel and dirt tracks on your trips, with a very occasional foray into only slightly tougher territory than that. Both come standard with electronic on demand AWD. Both the RAV4 and Corolla Cross hybrids are very close in ground clearance with the RAV4 offering 8.1” and the Corolla Cross 8”. Since the RAV4 is a compact SUV and the Corolla Cross in the sub-compact segment, the RAV4 is obviously bigger overall but by how much? For front row legroom the Corolla Cross actually offers more space, almost an extra 2”. Second row legroom is quite a bit smaller, the RAV4 has an extra 5.8”, that’s a big difference especially if you are putting car seats in the rear. Overall cargo space, there’s not a huge difference, the RAV4 has an extra 8 cubic feet/226 litres but it’s the space behind the 3rd row where there is quite a difference, the RAV4 has an extra 16 cubic feet/453 litres. The Corolla Cross hybrid has a tire repair kit and the RAV4 hybrid a temporary spare tire. Does it make sense to pick the larger Toyota RAV4 Hybrid for only a little more money? In Canada, if you choose the top trim Corolla Cross Hybrid and the XLE RAV4 Hybrid with the premium package, both have similar features, the RAV4 will only cost you an extra $3,275 CAD. The premium package also includes driver seat memory which the Corolla Cross doesn’t have. In the US, the two trims that are the most similar are the top trim Corolla Cross hybrid and the RAV4 XLE model with the convenience package with options, the RAV4 is an extra $3,360 USD. The Honda CR-V hybrid has a 2L 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with Honda’s new 4th generation hybrid system featuring a pair of electric motors. It’s matched to an E-CVT and has a combined 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD in Canada, FWD and AWD options are available in the US. You get about 835 km/519 miles to every fill. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a 2.5L 4-cylinder matched to an ECVT with Toyota’s hybrid synergy drive; it produces 219 combined horsepower, standard AWD. You get about 933 km/580 miles toe very fill. The interior of the CR-V is modern, open, and quieter than the outgoing model. This new Honda CR-V hybrid has the most cabin and cargo space in CR-V history. The new seats are very comfortable and are designed to reduce fatigue over long drives. The CR-V interior gets the same design elements as the new Civic, it’s simple and uncluttered with soft materials and some hard plastic. The striking honeycomb mesh accent that stretches across the dash from door to door hiding the air vents is a unique interior feature. In Canada, since there is just one trim, it’s comes loaded with a 9” touchscreen with Navigation, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7” driver display, a wireless charger, 12-speaker Bose sound system, heated steering wheel, power front seats, driver seat memory, heated front and rear seats, leather trimmed seating with orange accents, a moonroof and a hands-free power tailgate. In the US, there are two trims, the base trim has the smaller 7” touchscreen, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a power driver’s seat, cloth seats with orange stitching, heated front seats and a moonroof. You can add a heating steering wheel for $460 USD to this trim and a wireless charger for $350 USD. The top Sport Touring: comes loaded with all the same standard features Canadian’s get on the top Touring trim. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid offers a practical and versatile interior with plenty of storage in the door pockets and at the centre console. It comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, available 10.5” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and heated front cloth seats. One up from the base model is a great trim to choose, the XLE comes with a power tailgate, a moonroof, 8-way power driver’s seat and a heated steering. In the US, you can add packages to this trim between almost $1,000 to just over $2,000 which includes features like heated front seats, heated steering wheel, moonroof, a power tailgate and the JBL sound system. Other available features on higher trims in both Canada and the US include, a wireless charger, Softex upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, power passenger seat, a 12.3” digital driver display and a bird’s eye view camera. See the amazing hybrid transaxle used in the 2019 - 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Learn how this incredible transaxle functions in all nine modes of operation to help its sophisticated 2.5L engine deliver almost 40% brake thermal efficiency (BTE) for maximum fuel economy. This transaxle is also used in the 2018 and above Camry Hybrid, Avalon Hybrid, Lexus ES300h hybrid, and 2021 Venza Hybrid. Corrections and Additions: 1. Addition: In EV mode, sling lubrication from gear movement is provided to drip channels that feed bearings, gears, and stator cooling. The RAV4 Prime uses an external electric oil pump for use in EV mode. 2. The 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid also uses the P710 transaxle. 3. Correction: At 27 minutes: In overdrive with MG1 spinning backward, the ICE RPM should be less than when it is in direct drive. I incorrectly said the ICE RPM was higher. 4. Correction: The BTE chart at 23:06 is the wrong one for this ICE, it is for the non-hybrid ICE variant known as A25A-FKS (The related experiment is done by EPA, which provides all the details), while the engine for the Hybrid RAV4 is A25B-FKS with a slightly higher peak efficiency to 41%. The BTE plot of A25B is different from the A25A, with lower maximum torque, and a much larger high-efficiency area (it reaches 38% efficiency at 80 Nm until 2500 RPM), and the peak efficiency point/area is shifted to the left/downside. Hybrid SUVs are all the rage at the moment, so we've pitted the 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid mid-sizer against its two latest challengers, the related Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Nissan X-Trail ePower. That's right; it's a family SUV showroom with a hybrid twist! The RAV4 Hybrid has a 'self-charging' series-parallel hybrid system, while the Outlander PHEV has a plug-in version of the same set-up that drives the wheels via a petrol engine and/or electric motor, albeit with a much larger battery that enables a long electric-only driving range.
