Welcome to Keybored! Today, we're going to fix a Rattling Stabilizer! We're not going to load it up with Grease, but using an alternative method such as the Epsi, Holee and even the Band-Aid Wrap mod! NOTE: I ended up taking down the original and uploading a new version! I stated that Holee mod was similar to the Epsi and just skipped over the tutorial... but they really aren't the same... so I added in footage for the Holee to do it justice! Also, added in the credits to the originators in the video itself :) Over the course to time, the one keyboard mod that was always a pain to me was getting the stabilizer done correctly. Once done correct, it was a thing of beauty, but when not, it was a rattling mess. Typically, us in the keyboard world take bunch of Krytox or Permatex dielectric grease, and load up the stem insides to prevent the stem from rattling inside it. This might work for a while, but requires regular maintenance to have it function right, and more often times than not, end up with a sticky, messy goop on your keyboard. I needed to mod my stabilizers, so I thought I would just make a short video out of it. I'm pretty new to the keyboard scene and new to video editing, so I'm still learning, but I hope y'all enjoyed it. At least a little. A tiny bit? Liked one part at least? Maybe when the video was over? 😆😢 Just a quick follow up on my personal results of the band-aid wrap mod - you may have noticed some excess wrap that went past the wire ends, I did end up clipping those off and having had spent some time now with this mod, I think you can do with a little less wrap. I think 1 rotation around (just enough to cover the wire & no more) would suffice. But this was my first time modding my stabs at all, so all in all, it was a great learning experience. I wanted to do the Holee mod on my stabilizers but I ran out of Band-Aids. So, I decided to use an alternative material, Cotton Pads! It's soft, cushiony, resizable and easy to insert inside the stabs without disassembling it. I'll be showing you how to do it on my plate-mounted stabilizers. Added 3mm foam (did not stack) and a couple of band-aids to the plate mounted stabilizers (clip side) which were starting to get loose after couple of days of use. Personally it sounds a bit more muted now and spacebar is not so rattly, but the left side of spacebar needs more work (maybe relubing)

We developed a custom mix of silicone and rubber blends to develop the Stab Pad. It comes backed with 3M adhesive and are pre-cut to work with any type of PCB or plate mount cherry style stabilizer. They were developed to stop the noise from bottoming out the stabilizer, and keep your PCB from any wear and tear. The impact resistance means the sound from bottoming out is almost entirely gone – all that is left is a much deeper tone. Stab Pads come in .2mm and .5mm variants. Available today at: 🤍 The .5mm will work on almost every stabilizer except some of the weaker PCB mounts like clip ins which work great with the .2mm. The .2mm work great for clip in PCB mount, or those that want a harder stop upon bottoming out. Save the Band-Aids for boo-boo's, not your precious endgame keyboard.

The Keychron K4v2 was my first ever Mechanical Keyboard. I do not know what is it with these mechanical keyboards, but somehow, after getting one, you'll be drawn into modding and customizing these keyboards. I am no expert at this, as this is my first time doing this, please do not flame me if I did a procedure wrong. I only followed some of the videos and articles I've read. Originally, I planned on lubing the switches too. But this was scrapped since lubing Gateron Browns will mean losing that very slight tactility which would render them more like Red switches (at least from what I've read). Hence, I opted not to waste my time doing it. Overall, the experience was quite tiring, but fulfilling. Prior to this, I couldn't understand what it is with these keyboards that makes the enthusiast dedicate a lot of time. But now that I have experienced the basic modding and better typing experience, I do understand why.
