Being outside is tough. Especially for 40 hours straight, at the #1 light infantry MilSim experience in the world.. We often hear the term "touch grass" thrown around, but how often are people actually doing it? Actually logging off, going outside, and actually interacting with people in a team environment outside of a video game lobby. This is one of my favorite aspects about working MilSim West events, and is where I believe much of the "training aspect", can be found. Tactical dudes will talk about using airsoft for "training" all the time, primarily focusing on the airsoft gun themselves. While there are definitely some things that translate from airsoft to real firearms, I think the actual gun is the least important training aspect that can be had from these events. SUT , communication skills, field craft, physical fitness, and appropriate kit selection are all things I would say provide the greatest amount of learning opportunities at these events, with the actual airsoft part (though tons of fun) taking the back seat. Today I'll be going over my experience at the past few events I've attended, as well as the gear selection that helps me thrive in this light infantry experience. Enjoy! I recently attended a Milsim West event. It is a 40 hour Military simulation that uses airsoft guns as the medium to carry it. I somehow found myself as a Lieutenant for a platoon of Go getters. I was a fish out of water and had no idea what I was doing. I was terrible, the worst, but thankfully I had a solid NCO to help me out. Part 4 of my Milsim West Seize Grozny series picks up after episode 3 in which I was eliminated by blank fire from a roof top. Players must only react to blank fire by taking cover or retreating. In the spirit of the game I decided to "die" to blank fire because I was completely out in the open rushing forward. While is there NOT a lot of action in this episode it does cover a lot of other aspects of the game. There are also a good bit of tactical tips in the video. I had the opportunity to attend Copperhead 8 hosted by American Milsim. It’s a massive two day airsoft event located in Playas New Mexico with hundreds of participants. The event is hosted yearly by American Milsim at Playas, New Mexico. 850 players in attendance. Featuring 16 different player POV's with different roles such as rifleman, medic, squad leader, LMG support, and Heavy Weapons Specialists. This is the largest team we have assembled and filmed with thus far. This year, the field catches on fire multiple times, and we destroy nearly every enemy vehicle we come across.
